Panel moulding { either made with square corners or with decorative moulded corners }can be placed above a fire place on a chimney breast to accentuate a picture or mirror. If fixed on a plain wall it could complement wall lights or again a picture or a mirror.
It may also be fitted to the ceiling but this is a matter of individual taste and is also dependant on the height of the room.
